Games: Boiling Point Road To Hell

Ambitious PC games rarely come without a host of problems. Boiling Point, a fusion of first-person shooter

and role-playing game, is no exception to that rule, shipping with so many issues that it's unplayable out of the box.

The Deep Shadows-developed game is crazy buggy, with frequent crashes, routine corruption of save files, vanishing non-player characters that makes it impossible to complete quests, and lots of other extreme weirdness, including the ability to destroy a police station with a single crossbow bolt. A recent patch eliminates the save bug and most of the quest and graphical oddities, but at present this game remains proudly unrefined.

Aside from the intriguing alt-history setting that combines robots with the Civil War, everything about this game is inept. Combat is a dreary repetitive-motion exercise where you clumsily gun down enemies who have the intelligence of ducks in carnival shooting games. Ugly, convoluted levels see you acting like some kind of cowboy take on Spider-Man and leaping around buildings that make about as much architectural sense as the girder levels in Donkey Kong. And the remaining minimal entertainment has also been bled out of the game by hideous graphics, choppy frame rates, and screechy sound effects.

World in Conflict is set in an alternate-history version of 1989. Instead of the Berlin Wall falling and

communism collapsing, the Soviet Union launches an assault on Western Europe, and the United States rushes its forces in to aid its Western allies.

Genre: Real-Time Strategy
Release Date: Sep 18, 2007 (more)
ESRB: TEEN

Four months into the conflict, after the US Navy has been attrited down, the USSR launches a surprise invasion in Seattle and pushes inland. In the 14-mission single-player campaign, you play as a company commander who is part of the meager US defense; there is no campaign from the Soviet perspective, though you can play as the Red Army in multiplayer. However, the campaign twists and weaves, letting you experience a sample of the European conflict, battle in remote areas of the Soviet Union, and bring the fight to New York City.

World in Conflict does not offer base-building or resource gathering. Instead, players are given a pre-determined amount of in-game reinforcement points to buy units. When a player buys a unit, the reinforcements points are subtracted from the point bank and the units are airdropped to the field, with a 20-second wait for the units to arrive. When a unit is destroyed, the points that had been used to purchase it are slowly filtered back to the player: thus reinforcements can be summoned back into the fray. Tactical gameplay lacking base- and unit building is similar to real-time tactics (RTT) games, some of which feature intermittent reinforcements. Another example of the genre is Ground Control by Massive Entertainment, sometimes considered World in Conflict's spiritual predecessor. In fact, the game's designers considered the game to be an RTT, though the game is generally marketed as RTS.
World in Conflict contains three main factions: the United States, Soviet Union & NATO, all playable in multiplayer games. However, only the US and NATO are the available factions in the single-player campaign. They are pitted against the Soviet Union throughout the story as well as in online play.
The player may choose one of four roles in battle: infantry, air, support or armor. The infantry role gives access to various infantry squads such as anti-tank teams, snipers, and light transport vehicles whereas armor allows players to use various classes of tanks, the dominant direct fire land combat unit of the game. Players choosing the air role have access to anti-armor, air superiority, scout and transport helicopters. Finally, the support role contains anti-air, artillery, and repair units. Each role's basic units can be purchased by everyone but are more expensive for players with a different role. In addition, each role has its own exclusive units, that aren't available for purchase from other roles.
The game relies heavily on teamplay, for example, a lone armor player can be easily defeated by an air player, whereas an air player would be ineffective if friendly armor players are not present to eliminate enemy anti-air. This heavy reliance on teamplay has been met with some criticism by players since unexperienced players that do not teamplay can potentially spoil a match. The most prominent forms of this is support players using heavy artillery instead of anti-air and repair units, leaving armor players exposed to enemy helicopters. The higher importance of armor than artillery, and the weakening of artillery's attack power by patches has added to the problem.
Most units have special offensive and defensive abilities that recharge after use. For example, standard infantry has the offensive grenade launcher attack and are capable of a defensive sprinting maneuver. World in Conflict uses a tactical aid system similar to that of Command & Conquer: Generals. Tactical Aids allow the player to perform special actions such as calling in airstrikes, deploying paratroopers, and to launch carpet bombing raids.

James Cameron's Avatar The Game

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game is the official videogame based on the highly anticipated film James

Cameron’s Avatar.

James Cameron's Avatar The Game
Platform: PC Game
Size 3.8GB
Publisher & Developer: Ubisoft
Genre: Action
Release Date: Dec 1, 2009 (more)
ESRB: TEEN
ESRB Descriptors: Mild Language, Violence, Animated Blood, Mild Suggestive Themes
Language: English, German, Dutch, Italian, French, Polish, Russian, Spanish

The videogame takes you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination. You will encounter the Navi, Pandora’s indigenous people and discover other life forms the likes of which have never been seen in the world of video games before. When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium in search of valuable resources, and the Navi, you will find yourself thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.
At first the player is allowed to choose the appearance of the character from a set of pre-defined faces, although not the name. After the player has chosen a side, each side the player chooses offers different gameplay, weapon set, skill set, and environment.

As a Soldier, the player is equipped with firearms such as assault rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers. The soldier generally have to eliminate the enemies, which are fast and resilient and usually charging towards the player, from afar. Playing as an Avatar limits the player to only one Avatar-issued machine gun and various primitive weapons such as bows, crossbows and melee weapons. The Avatar player usually has to charge the enemies since ranged weapon are either weak (the machine gun), have slow rate of fire (bows and crossbows), or have limited ammunition; however, the human enemies are generally weak and the basic foot soldiers can die in one hit. The environment also reacts differently to the character: many plants will attack the soldier, while the Avatar can walk past said plants unharmed. A variety of vehicles or mounts are also available to each race.
If the player's health is reduced to 0, s/he can use a Recovery that instantly recovers to full health. Recoveries can be acquired by gathering cell samples left behind by killed creatures (including Humans or Na'vi) or plants, but only 5 Recoveries can be carried at any one time. Avatar players can collect Cell Samples more easily from many plants without having to "kill" them. If the player falls to his death, however, he cannot use Recoveries and have to reload from a check point which is automatically saved. The game offers no way to manually save when playing the game (it is only saved when player reach certain points, completed an objective, or quit the game). A special case involves a separate checkpoint when the user decides which race to side with, which cannot be overwritten.
As the player completes mission objectives or eliminates opposition, the character gains experience points and levels up. The leveling up process is quite linear, with no way to customize the character. Each level rewards the character with better version of the weapon, armor and skills she/he already has. The character can have only 1 armor, 4 skills and 4 weapons equipped into quick slot at any one time. The skills can be offensive (boost damage, summon air strikes / wild life), defensive (boost damage resistance, heal) or of general purpose (boost speed, invisibility).
Experience points is also converted to credits that is used in the Conquer minigame. It is a Risk-style strategy game in which the player captures territories from enemies. Credits is used to buy troops (which has 3 types: infantry, heavy ground unit and air unit), defenses or limited special attacks. Some territores captured reward player with passive enhancements such as damage boost, critical chance, armor, health to use in the main game, as long as they are in the player's possession. Free Download World of Tanks

World of Tanks is a massively multiplayer, online game open, fully dedicated to the armored vehicles the

middle of XX century.

World of Tanks: Open BT (2010)
Platform: PC Game
Size: 1.14 GB
Language: English / Russian
Genre: Action
Players will have the opportunity to fight shoulder to shoulder with the fans of steel giants from all over the world, defending their claims to world domination tank. Immerse yourself in the massive tank battles in the light of historical data of the Second World War. More than fifty authentically recreated models of military equipment, including prototypes and experimental models.

Each new player will start a game driving a light German or Soviet tank. While getting experience and credits, a user will be able to upgrade his tank or other unit to a heavier model. There will also be a chance to modify the existing tank by means of changing turrets, chassis, engines, guns, radios and various ammunition types and thus try a new experimental machine and increase the player’s fighting potential.

Every unit has about 10 modifications with different combat characteristics and all modifications are historically grounded – that means they were either implemented in real life or existed as prototypes. An average tank will have 2 modifications of turret, 2 variants of chassis, 3 models of engine and 2-6 modifications of the main gun. When a player already has a lot of credits and points, he can buy new vehicles and place them in his garage. If needed, the garage can further be extended, or if there is no more place for new items, unused units can be sold. Tank crew members will be leveling up as well. World of Tanks has a "virtual" crew system with certain leveling options. With every new battle the crew gains more and more experience which leads to improved performance of your panzer on the battlefield. Say, having a veteran gunner in your tank will result in + n% increase in fire accuracy. When the main skills of your crew members are maxed out they are free to acquire some side-skills e.g. the driver may learn the ropes of maintenance so in case of emergency this will let you reduce repair time. All of the modifications and changes take place in the period between the battles.
A screenshot showing gameplay from the World of Tanks Russian closed beta.
Gameplay described in short review on IGN:
A flexible system of authentic vehicle upgrade and development allows you to try any of the vehicles and weapons in the game. Whether you prefer to exhaust your foes with fast and maneuverable light tanks, make deep breaches in enemy lines with all-purpose medium tanks, use the force of giant tanks to eliminate opposing armored forces, or become a heavy sniper with long-range howitzers, each unit type has its own advantages and can be extremely effective when operated by a true tank ace. But being a great tank commander alone isn't enough to win! In World of Tanks, it's all about teamwork. Victory is achieved by combining your combat skills with those of the other members of your team, each playing their own role on the battlefield. Just add your favorite strategy to build your own iron empire and manifest the indisputable authority of the tank! Feel the TANK POWER!

the attention of gamers.

Recognised as one of the all-time classic point and click adventures, the tale of hapless George, sassy Nico, and their globe- spanning pursuit of the ancient treasures of the Knights Templar, is a fundamental part of any gamers conscious. Thanks to an ideal combination of smart writing, intelligent puzzles, and a depth of wit, the game is still just as relevant as it was when first released. Now with hours of new content, an overhaul of the interface, and a brand new re-imagining of classic puzzles, the game is set to be discovered by a whole new audience, on two new formats.
Realised for the DS and Wii, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Directors Cut takes advantage of the unique nature of both machines and introduces an intricate new story thread for Nico, all while maintaining the classic story that charmed a generation. Its time to experience George and Nicos worldwide adventure in a whole new way, with brand new puzzles, hilarious new jokes, and the distinctive, rich story that made the series so deservedly renowned.

The "Directors Cut" of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars sees the games not only realised on new formats, but also featuring hours of brand new content, making it ideal for newcomers through to die-hard fans. Amongst the changes and additions are the following:

In a move that will delight fans and enrich the experience of first-time players, a whole new story arc has been written for Nico. All new character facial animation, based on work by legendary comic book artist Dave Gibbons (Watchmen, Beneath a Steel Sky), improves the visuals for both versions of the game.

Puzzles have been adjusted to utilise the unique opportunities made available by the DS and Wii interfaces.
